Data validation can be accomplished both programmatically using direct access to the Run a validation session using the API and easily from the web interface, quickly uploading the class library and dataset.
Data is retained for the following periods. If the file is used, the timing is reset to the original length:
-
Library: 30 days
-
Dataset: 7 days
-
Session: 7 days
Note: If needed, select a different instance in which to run Data validation, by selecting Change instance, select the new instance, and select Ok.
The following directions describe how to validate data using the website.
Validate data using the website
-
Sign in to CONNECT.
-
From the left hand menu, select Data modeling and then Data validation.
-
Select Start here to begin a new session, or select an existing session.
-
From Class Library:
-
Select Open to upload class library (*.xml) and then select the file, or select an existing class library from the Recently used Class Libraries.
-
Select Open again to upload.
-
Select Next.
-
-
From Dataset, select Open to choose a dataset (for example *.xls) and select the file, or choose an existing dataset.
-
Update the details and select Next.
-
From Default Mapping, select the session defaults and select Next.
-
Vocabulary: defines the naming standards by column
-
Maturity: the selected level establishes the stage of the project, setting the correct expectations at the current stage
-
-
From Mapping:
-
Select the default values.
-
If necessary, select Ignore all unmapped properties (and select Yes to confirm) to intentionally ignore data that does not map between the class library and dataset. The unmapped properties are collected for review in the output.
-
Select Next.
-
If errors are found, select View All, correct the errors and then select Next again.
-
-
Update the Severity notification types (Disable, Error, Warning, Suggestion, or Hint) and select Next. There will be a few types that are mandatory and thus greyed out.
-
Select Start validation.
-
After the validation is complete, select one of the following:
-
See results
-
Export results
-
Display exports
-
-
See results
-
After validation is complete, select See results to view the output directly.
-
Select the type of visualization required:
-
Rule-centric
-
Class breakdown-centric.
These can be toggled as well once chosen.
-
-
Filter the results as needed. Additionally, dive deeper into the results by selecting them to discover the underlying data structures that produce the visualization.
Export results
-
Select Export results.
-
Update the filters to include only the desired attributes.
-
Optionally, save the filter configuration chosen for future use by selecting Save configuration.
-
-
Select Export.
-
After the export is complete, select Display exports (the box at top right of the saved session) to download the file.
-
Open the file in a spreadsheet tool.
