Add data sources and configure them for data collection from the PI Connector Administration Site page.

Procedure

  1. From the Overview page, click the Data Source List link, or click Add or modify data sources in the Data source for the PI Connector for IEC 60870-5-104 area.

  2. To add a new data source, enter the name in the Data source name field, and then click Add and configure.

Note: All Data source name values for PI Connector for IEC 60870-5-104 must be unique. Data source names are used to name PI AF elements and PI points.

    The configuration window opens.

  3. Enter and select your data source configurations, and then click Save.

    • Data source description

Optional: Description of the data source configuration.

    • Primary Host or IP Address

Required: IP address or host added text here. IP addresses must use the xxx.yyy.zzz.nnn format.

    • Secondary Host or IP Address

PI Connector for IEC 60870-5-104 allows the addition of a secondary IEC 60870-5-104 subordinate device and port to which the connector fails-over (connects) to when the primary device is unavailable. This transition is initiated when the actual connection is lost and it is guaranteed that the connector will never be connected to both IEC 60870-5-104 devices concurrently. The transition occurs immediately after the disconnection is detected.

Optional: IP address or host name of the secondary IEC 60870-5-104 subordinate device. IP addresses must use the xxx.yyy.zzz.nnn format.

    • Primary Port

Required: The TCP/IP port number of the primary IEC 60870-5-104 subordinate device. The default port number is 2404.

    • Secondary Port

Optional: The TCP/IP port number of the secondary IEC 60870-5-104 subordinate device. The default port number is 2404.

    • ASDU

Required: The ASDU address numbers to be queried by the general interrogation commands.

Values can be entered in the following formats:

      • Comma-separated values, such as 1,2,3

      • A range of values, such as 1-3

      • A combination of comma-separated values and ranges, such as 1-3,5,7-10

      • 65535 to activate the broadcast interrogation. When specified, the connector will discover and collect data from all ASDUs on an RTU (at IP address).

      • Originator Address

Required: Allows you to specify the originator address that the connector uses for communication with an IEC 60870-5-104 subordinate device. The default originator address is 0.

      • Timeouts t1, t2, t3

Optional: Three timeouts in seconds, comma separated.

Their description taken from the IEC 60870-5-104 specification summarizes the table below.

        Parameter

        Default Value

        Description

        t1

        15s

Time-out of send or test APDUs

        t2

        10s

Time-out for acknowledges in case of no data messages t2 < t1

        t3

        20s

Time-out for sending test frames in case of a long idle state

    • Parameter w

Optional: Specifies when the connector sends a message acknowledgement.

The exact description of the w parameter as the IEC 60870-5-104 specification defines it:

Latest acknowledge after receiving w I format APDUs.

Default is 1, which means the acknowledgment is always sent.

    • Interrogation Type

Required: The interrogation type specifies which interrogation commands will be sent to the IEC 60870-5-104 subordinate device. The default interrogation type is General and groups interrogation.

      Options:

    • General interrogation – only the general interrogation command will be sent to the device.

    • General and groups interrogation – General and group interrogation commands will be sent to the device.

    • General, group and counter interrogation – General, group, and counter interrogation commands will be sent to the device.

    • Data Type Identifier

Required: When marked, the PI point name will include the DataType section.

For more information about the tag naming convention, see "PI points, PI AF elements, and attributes creation" in Introduction to PI Connector for IEC 60870-5-104.

The default is OFF. It needs to be activated when the ASDU and IOA combination does not guarantee uniqueness.

The Overview page opens and lists the new data source.

    • Interrogation Period [h]

Optional: The interrogation period in hours (whole number). Default is 1.

    • Device Time Zone

Optional: Default is local time zone. UTC is supported.
