PI Interface for Random Simulator Data

Learn about the startup command file

The Random interface default point source is R.

For Windows, command file names have a .bat extension. The Windows continuation character (^) allows for the use of multiple lines for the startup command. The maximum length of each line is 1024 characters (1 kilobyte). The number of parameters is unlimited, and the maximum length of each parameter is 1024 characters.

PI-ICU provides a tool for configuring the interface startup command file.

The Random interface on Windows has an ICU Control that will aid in configuring the Random interface startup command file:

ICU Control RI setup on Windows

The Random control for PI-ICU has two sections. A yellow text box indicates that an invalid value has been entered, or that a required value has not been entered.

When the Fill time gaps with data box is checked, the interface will, at startup, generate and backfill data for the time since the last shutdown. This is useful for demonstration systems that are stopped and started often (on a laptop, for example). A gap time can also be specified, which will cause the interface to generate data only as far back as is specified-for example, "2h" will cause the interface to generate a maximum of 2 hours' worth of data from the time it is started. The default time increment is seconds. If 's', 'm', 'h', or 'd' is not specified, then the time defaults to 's'. The command line equivalent is /nogap=x, where x is the maximum number of seconds of data to backfill.
