Here are some frequently asked questions about the Client Failover Service. If you have additional questions, select the Feedback button.
-
How are the primary and secondary roles assigned to an adapter?
Whichever adapter has the highest failover score assumes a primary role. If both adapters have the same failover score, the adapter that made the first connection with the Client Failover service assumes the primary role.
-
During a failover event, the primary adapter is demoted to the secondary role and the secondary adapter is promoted to the primary role. What happens when the newly secondary adapter (formerly the primary adapter) comes back online? Does it re-assume the primary role?
This is dependent on the failover score. Whichever adapter has the highest failover score assumes the primary role.
-
What happens if the Client Failover Service loses connectivity to the adapter pair?
The adapters continues to run in their assigned role until connection to the Client Failover service is reestablished. No failover events occur. After the connection is reestablished, the failover scores and adapter roles will be reevaluated.
-
How do I know adapter failover is working?
There are two methods of monitoring the status of the adapter pair and the Client Failover Service:
-
View the Failover Health adapter component in PI AF
-
Directly query the Client Failover Service client session.
