  • Minimum version: Data Archive 2016 R2 (3.4.405.1198)
For full support of PI to CONNECT features, use Data Archive 2017 R2 (3.4.415.1188) or later.

  • PI AF 2017 R2 (2.9.2.8195) or later

Note: PI AF is only required if you wish to connect to an AF server.

CORE editions of the Windows Server operating systems are supported with silent installations.

  • Internet connectivity of at least 10 Mbps.

Specific PI to CONNECT features

Administrator privileges

Privileges

Requirement

Installation privileges

To install a PI to CONNECT Agent, you must be an administrator on the agent host computer.

Configuration privileges

To configure a PI to CONNECT Agent after the installation is complete, you must have the Account Administrator role in CONNECT. For silent installations, you have the option to create the requisite client ID and secret prior to the installation. The client must have the Data Manager and piusage-writer roles in CONNECT.

Ensure write access to streams, entities, events, and types

The PI to CONNECT Agent has write permission for streams in CONNECT. The configuration utility generates a client ID that has the Data Manager role, which provides write permission by default. If write access is removed, certain operations will fail, such as updates to Units of Measure (UOM).

AF server transfers require Add, Delete, Read, and Update permissions for types, and Create, Delete, Read, and Update permissions for entities and events. The configuration utility generates a client ID that has the Data Manager role, which provides these permissions by default.

Open firewall port for communication to PI to CONNECT

Port 443 must be opened for https communication to the PI to CONNECT gateway. The URL used for https communication is:

  • platform.connect.aveva.com

Although the above URL currently corresponds to a public static IP address, we recommend you use the URL rather than the IP address in firewall rules. If required, you can determine the IP address by pinging the URL.

Set Data Archive tuning parameters

Set Data Archive turning parameters to allow for long, efficient historical transfer queries and for a larger number of streaming events to be held in the Data Archive Update Manager buffer.

Use the PI SMT tuning parameters plug-in to change the settings outlined below. When you are finished, you must restart PI Data Archive services for the changes to take effect.

Under Update Manager:

  • Set MaxUpdateQueue to 100,000,000 (max value).

  • Set TotalUpdateQueue to 1,000,000,000 (max value).

Under Archive:

  • Set the ArcMaxCollect parameter to the maximum value.
