The ISM Mapping Tool is a specialized application designed to facilitate mapping of classes in Base Mapping files to the classes present in an AVEVA Information Standards Manager Library file. It has the ability to override and update the Base Mapping file, ensuring error-free import into the AIM Import Controller, thus making the mapped data visible in the AIM Dashboard.
-
The ISM Mapping Tool works by allowing you to import two key files: a Base Mapping file and an AIM bootstrap file derived from an ISM Library, normally located in the [AIM installation folder]\Import\Server\Bootstrap.
It is provided as an option "ISM Mapping Tool" within the Transform tab.

ISM Mapping Window:
The ISM mapping window displays the following sections:
-
Input:
-
Base Mapping File: Select the relevant Base Mapping file, either enter the location and file name or browse to the file using the icon.
-
ISM Library File: Select the relevant ISM Library file (AIM bootstrap file) that contains the list of ISM classes. These are the target classes that will be used to replace the ones in the class mapping defined in the Base Mapping file that need updating.
-
Import: When you click the Import button, the tool reads both files and imports the data from the Base Mapping File (Attribute name, Pattern, Class ID) and ISM Library file (ISM Classes) into the Mapping section.

-
-
Mapping: This section consists of four columns.
-
Attribute name: This column has all the attribute names present in the <Condition> nodes of objects' present in the selected Base Mapping File.
-
Pattern: This column has all the Patterns present in the <Condition> nodes of objects present in the Base Mapping File.
-
Class ID: This column has the <Class ID> values present in the <Object> nodes in the Base Mapping File.
-
ISM Classes: The ISM Classes column has a drop down of all the classes present in the ISM Library File. For each Class ID, you can then select the required class from the ISM Classes dropdown, to update the Class mapping within the Base Mapping File. You can modify the selection as needed, ensuring the correct ISM class is mapped to each attribute/pattern/input class row.
-
-
Save: After the class mapping is done, save the updated class mapping to the Base Mapping file by clicking the Save button. The updated mapping file then contains the ISM Classes assigned by you.
-
Message box: A message box pops up by updating Base Mapping file after you save the data.

-
Backup File generation: A backup file is generated for Base Mapping file before getting updated.

Limitations:
-
The <Object> nodes in the Base Mapping file without a <Condition> node are ignored.
-
The patterns within a <Search Criteria> node in the Base Mapping file will not be populated in the mapping section.
-
Objects in the Base Mapping file with a ClassID set to an Attribute value are omitted, for example, <ClassID value = [AttributeName] />.
-
Mappings of other ISM entities such as Attributes and Units of Measure are not supported.
