AVEVA™ PI System Topologies for PI Server 2024 R2

Learn about the prescriptive topology approach

  • Last UpdatedJan 13, 2025
  • 1 minute read

The "prescriptive" topology approach ensures that a new PI System is designed and set up according to R&D testing, as well as the standards and data collected from the following sources:

  • Thousands of PI System installations

  • Best practices followed by AVEVA Customer Support teams

We call these topologies "prescriptive topologies" because of the associated performance testing involved in the design and fine tuning of each one.

Topologies are designed and tested by AVEVA to simulate real-world scenarios. By providing these resources and proven default configurations, we hope to remove difficult decision points for you during the deployment process.

Best practice: Stick to the topology's design

Alterations to a published topology's design are not recommended. Any changes or deviations from the recommended settings may affect the topology's performance envelope.

Our extensive testing shows that even small changes in system deployment or configuration can have a large impact on a topology's performance characteristics. We only support the use of these topologies as documented here with no alterations.

This is not to say that AVEVA does not support other deployments of the PI System, but that the published outcomes and metrics for a topology must be followed to ensure published results.
