AVEVA™ PI System Topologies for PI Server 2024 R2

Learn about Topology 4

Topology 4 is for small to medium-sized PI Systems that requires high availability, and reside in a plant or on a single-site LAN-connected environment with an average use of event frames.

There are four versions of Topology 4 covered in this section. The one you select is dependent on the number of events that your PI System is expected to handle:

  • Topology 4A is recommended for systems that have up to 1,000 events per second.

  • Topology 4B is recommended for systems that have between 1,000 and 5,000 events per second.

  • Topology 4C is recommended for systems that have between 5,000 and 20,000 events per second.

  • Topology 4D is recommended for systems that have between 20,000 and 50,000 events per second.

Topology 4 installations require a minimum of five servers for high availability environments. The expectation is that there will also be one or more PI Vision servers implemented using a network load balancer.
