PCS PI Data provider

PCS Browser

This provides the PCS browser tab when browsing in the Asset Framework hierarchy.

Import files for PCS Browser

  1. Import PCSBrowser1.aaPDF from C:\Program Files (x86)\AVEVA\PCSPIDataProvider\PCSBrowser as an object in the galaxy.

  2. $PCSBrowser template is imported.

  3. You can verify the template under Applications in the Template view.

You can assign a PI value to a graphics or an object. Below are examples how you can utilize PCS browser to assign the value. After importing the $PCSBrowser template, it adds a new extension in the attribute browser.

Assign PI value to graphic

This example demonstrates adding PI value to the graphics.

  1. Create a new graphic.

  2. Double click on the graphic created. The Edit Animations dialog opens.

  3. Select the (+) icon and select Value Display. Here, in this example, value display is added to the graphics created.

  4. In the available data types format, select any one of the data type you want to assign to the graphic. In this example, we have considered, Analog.

  5. In Analog text box you can either enter the syntax or browse the galaxy.

    1. Enter the syntax in the format: attribute(pi:\\PIServer\PI Database\ElementPath\Element|Attribute)

      (or)

    2. Select more options icon (...) to browse the elements.

    3. In the Galaxy Browse dialog, PCS Browser tab is added as part of PCS PI Provider.

      1. Select PCS Browser tab.

      2. Select Provider from the drop down list. The asset hierarchy for the selected provider is displayed on the left pane.

      3. Navigate to the element you want to access.

      4. Select the element to view all the attributes related to that element.

      5. Select the attribute you want to assign to the graphics created.

      6. The Analog text box automatically takes the syntax of selected attribute of the element.

    4. Select OK. The PI value is assigned to the graphic.

      This example demonstrates adding PI value to the objects.

      1. Create an object and select the object created.

      2. Select (+) to create an attribute.

      3. In the right pane, select a Data Type from the drop down list.

      4. Select an of the Attribute feature. Here, in this example, we have considered I/O.

      5. In the I/O dialog provide access to the attribute. This value determines the action updated to the PI point.

      6. In the example here, we have selected Read/Write.

      7. In the Read from / Write to field, you can either browse the galaxy of enter the syntax.

        1. Enter the syntax in the format: pi:\\PIServer\PI Database\ElementPath\Element|Attribute

          (or)

        2. Select (...) to browse to the Galaxy.

        3. In the PCS Browser tab, navigate to the asset you want read/write data.

      8. Select Save and Close.

      9. Select Check in the next pop-up window.

      10. Right click on the edited object in the model view and select Deploy.

      11. Select Close.

      12. Open the Object Viewer and locate the object.

      13. Select the object to display the attribute list. Select the attribute that is recently created.

      14. If you change the value of the attribute for the object the same will be reflected in the PI asset data.
