Get Started with AVEVA™ Operations Control

Operations Control and connected experience

  • Last UpdatedDec 24, 2023
  • 2 minute read

AVEVA Operations Control is an industrial software subscription to one of two packages that provides access across both on-premises and cloud applications. This flexibility provides multiple configuration, architecture, and deployment options that support your objectives and meet your requirements.

Adding connected experience to an Operations Control subscription provides the security of federated identity management for authentication and authorization, superseding the segmented approach of individual product security configurations. A per-user common identity is configured, authenticated, and managed through AVEVA Connect.

See AVEVA Connect Audit Logs for information about viewing the log of events and operations from your account.

This Getting Started Guide describes AVEVA Operations Control and connected experience, how Operations Control differs from perpetual and flex license modes, and benefits of the Operations Control mode with connected experience.

Operations Control

AVEVA Operations Control incorporates two core concepts: named users and subscriptions. See Operations Control license modes for information about license mode choices under Operations Control.

  • Each user is defined and known by their identity in AVEVA Connect.

  • Operations Control provides a subscription license for one of two AVEVA Operations Control packages (Edge, Supervisory); includes unlimited use of all products in the product package for your defined set of users.

  • The software can be used on as many machines as desired for both design-time and run-time functions.

  • Operations Control core subscription packages feature rich capabilities, including visualization, mobility, data storage and analytics, collaboration, and development tools in a hybrid cloud and on-premises configuration.

AVEVA Operations Control subscriptions provide all the tools necessary for plant, field, and control room teams to develop applications, access run-time data, and efficiently collaborate. Add-on packages provide additional functionality for manufacturing execution and artificial intelligence (AI) guided analytics.

    • Edge: The Edge subscription package provides a comprehensive solution for teams that require local process monitoring and control at the asset, equipment, or line level with IIoT and embedded HMI capabilities.

    • Supervisory: The Supervisory subscription package provides the tools necessary for centralized management of distributed SCADA or operations into a single unified plant model that drives standardization across departments.

Connected experience

Connected experience is a recommended optional configuration with Operations Control. The complete experience provided by Operations Control connected experience provides the following features in addition to those with Operations Control alone configured:

  • Seamless integrated user experience across all Operations Control products by using single common user identities.

  • The connected experience in Operations Control mode minimizes the local license and local user management for each Operations Control product. AVEVA Connect maintains detailed audit logs, eliminating the need to track installations of Operations Control software across the enterprise.

  • Transparency of product use both for your organization and for AVEVA's by means of AVEVA Connect detailed audit logs.

  • Centralized user management by federation of your organization to AVEVA Connect.

  • Single Sign-on (SSO) experience across all Operations Control products on a node with AVEVA Connect cloud capabilities.
