- PI Interface for SNMP 1.7.0.37
- Interfaces
With version 1.6.9 the interface supports enhanced authentication and data security through an extensive new feature set including integration of the pisnmp#.pwd file with Windows Credential Manager for storage and management of SNMP version, community string, and authentication settings.
Note: # in the password filename is the interface service ID.
As in previous versions, the OID information is maintained in the extended descriptor.
All authentication and data security configuration should be performed using the password file: pisnmp#.pwd. OSIsoft strongly recommends that you maintain pisnmp#.pwd using the new ICU control for the SNMP version, community string, and authentication settings. When a password file is specified, the information from the password file will be stored in Windows Credential Manager. See the topic discussing the PISNMP interface page of the ICU control for details and examples. To ensure best security practice OSIsoft also recommends you use the -ENC command line parameter, which will cause the interface to delete the password files when the interface starts.
Note: For backwards compatibility the interface continues to support SNMP version, community string, and authentication in the extended descriptor, but this is not the recommended best security practice.
