  • Last UpdatedDec 08, 2025
  • 3 minute read

Overview

PI AF Client 2024 R2 (version 3.1.1.1182) consists of several tools that enable you to access data and perform certain administrative tasks in PI Asset Framework (AF), Data Archive, and PI Buffer subsystem. PI Network subsystems (PINS), PI System Explorer, PI Builder, and the AF SDK are included in a PI AF Client 2024 R2 installation.

New features and enhancements

PI AF Client 2024 R2 contains these new features:

  • Redundant single sign-on (SSO) support: Data Archive, AF Server, PI Notifications, and PI PowerShell now support redundant SSO (RSSO) configurations by leveraging enhanced redundancy capabilities in AVEVA Identity Manager (AIM), improving availability for claims-based authentication via OpenID Connect (OIDC). See Configure AVEVA Identity Manager for redundancy

  • Audit Trail support for cloud-managed database services: The Audit Trail feature is now supported and available for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Amazon RDS for SQL Server, improving traceability and compliance for cloud-hosted deployments.

  • Improved PI point data retrieval performance: Client-side optimizations to PI point data retrieval can improve the performance of PI point data retrieval by 20-50% in certain scenarios. This improvement is applicable to both core and hybrid PI Servers.

Resolved issues

The following table lists all resolved issues for PI AF Client 2024 R2.

WI / PLI

Description

78363

Resolved: PI AF elements (AFElements) are no longer loaded as duplicates in multithreaded environments such as PI Analytics.

99307

Resolved: Searches in PI AF now complete without error, even when the user lacks read access to the target database.

107481

Resolved: Implemented retry logic in AF SDK for the RecordedValuesAtTimes method to address handle error "[-11148] Maximum number of concurrent bulk queries limit exceeded".

118547

Resolved: PI AF no longer locks the system when claims authentication is used by default and a check security call is issued after an access token expired.

120526

Resolved: Lock contention issues no longer occur in multithreaded applications with large number of requests that use CheckSecurity on one thread while running refresh on separate threads.

120873

Resolved: After renaming a PI Collective, AF SDK clients no longer return the following error message when trying to connect to a PI collective: The given key '<OldCollectiveName>' and service name '<NewCollectiveName>' do not match. This issue has been fixed.

122398

Resolved: The AVEVA PI OIDC Configuration tool now correctly configures the thumbprint for Data Archive.

123611

124210
