The following section explains how to scale the number of Web Client users. This is applicable only for AVEVA OMI and AVEVA InTouch HMI Managed applications.
Baseline Performance Test Environment
-
For a baseline value on the performance tests, each user accessed unique copies of 3 different types of graphics. The graphics represented comprehensive information as shown in a dashboard, which contained a large number of scripts with complex interactions, resulting in high consumption of CPU on the server.
-
Hardware configuration: Windows 10 OS, 32 GB RAM, 16 CPU (Logical Processors)
Result
-
Web Client is able to scale to 75+ Read Write users on the test system.
-
Graphics that consume less CPU on the server, can scale to a larger number of users.
-
ReadOnly users can scale to more users as they shared graphics in memory.
Design
-
The application was deployed to four client computers that displayed the running ViewApp.
-
The hardware configuration for three computers was: 8 core CPU and16 GB RAM. For the last computer, the configuration was: 4 core CPU and 8 GB.
-
Each deployed platform node was connected to a load balancer.
-
Users accessed the load balancer by means of a reverse proxy.
-
Depending on the number of users and type of requests, the load balancer redirects the request to the most appropriate node.

OMI Web Client Summary
-
The tests confirmed that the environment was able to scale up to 300 users while consuming 28 CPU (Logical Processors).
-
By analyzing CPU and memory usage, the environment can be scaled to support 1000 users with five nodes with 16 CPU each.
