The inventory process is conducted when the connector initially connects to the device, after a communication failure with the device, and after detecting a configuration change on the device.
During the inventory process, PI Connector for HART-IP issues the following commands:
-
Command 0 request to read the identity information about the field device including the device type, revision levels, and device ID.
-
Command 13 request to read the device tag descriptor.
-
Command 20 request to read the long tag name.
-
Command 50 request to read the dynamic variable assignments.
-
Command 9, or Command 3 for a HART 5/6 device, requests to read device variable data.
A separate Command 9, or Command 3 for a HART 5/6 device, request is issued for each device variable on the device. The number of device variables found on a device is determined by the maximum number of device variable values returned in the Command 0 response.
-
Command 105 request to read burst mode configuration.
Note: All sub-device commands listed above for the inventory process and real-time data collection are embedded in Command 77 (Send Command to Sub-Device) to retrieve data from connected sub-devices.
If the connected HART-IP device is a gateway, the connector issues the following commands:
-
Command 74 to read the gateway I/O system capabilities.
-
Command 84 to read sub-device identity.
A separate Command 84 is issued for each sub-device, followed by commands in the previous list to obtain sub-device inventories.
