Data messages

Data messages are either static or dynamic. Use static data messages to create elements in PI Asset Framework based on element templates created by type messages. Use dynamic data messages to send time-series data to PI Points in Data Archive based on PI Points created by container messages.

You must send type and container messages before sending data messages.

Modifying a data message using the UPDATE action is possible for Data messages and determines how PI Web API manages repeated time-series values, as defined by the OmfCreateMode configuration setting.
