Environment optimization

Review the Recommended specifications for software and hardware recommendations. In addition to meeting or exceeding those recommendations, you can also do the following:

• Use the PI Web API Admin Utility to configure a separate machine (PI AF/Data Archive) for storing OMF data.

• Keep other resource intensive programs/services on other machines.

• Keep machines close together physically, when possible, to reduce latency between machines.

If the hardware is not properly configured, issues that affect performance can occur. For example:

• If the PI Web API server is not allocated enough RAM, it may not be able to fit OMF resources in the in-memory cache, which can cause slower performance.

• If the PI Web API server is not provisioned enough CPU cores, fewer messages can be processed concurrently, which can cause slower performance.
