eDNA to PI Migration Utility

Migrate eDNA data to Data Archive

This procedure covers how to initiate your eDNA to PI migration. After creating and mapping PI tags that will hold eDNA data, you are ready to transfer your eDNA historical point data to a target Data Archive server.

The migrate command is used to transfer eDNA point data. There are four required parameter values that must be included:

  • eDNA History Service Name: The eDNA point data source

  • map file path/filename: The CSV file's mapping path and filename

  • startTime: The start date and time that the migration should begin reading eDNA data

  • EndTime: The end date and time that migration should finish reading eDNA data

For a complete description of the Migrate command parameters, see List of parameters for the Migrate command. Log files are created and contain helpful details about the migration process and results.

Prerequisite: Before you can migrate your eDNA point data, you must have generated a CSV mapping file and created the PI tags on the target Data Archive server that will hold the eDNA data on the target Data Archive.

  1. Open Windows PowerShell in Administrative mode.

  2. Navigate to the eDNA to PI Migration Utility's install directory.

  3. Run the migrate command with the required parameters:

edna2pi migrate [eDNA History Service Name] [map file path/filename] [startTime] [endTime] [optional parameters]

The settings for your eDNA to PI migration options are saved. The migration operation will begin at the specified start time.

Note: In rare circumstances, the migration utility may create duplicate events for points and add them at the end of the time series. These duplicate events share the same value and timestamp. This issue can occur if the utility is run multiple times in a row from the terminal. We recommend to avoid running the migration command consecutively. Once the migrate command completes, review the latest values written for points to make sure there are no duplicates.

Cancel and resume migration

If you need to cancel a migrate operation that is in progress, use Ctrl+C to cancel the operation from the command prompt or PowerShell window.

The eDNA to PI Migration Utility supports resuming a migrate operation from where a cancelled migration terminated. The utility will automatically detect the last eDNA point timestamp/value that was migrated, and it resume the migration from that point. As a result, you may specify the same original start time and end time for a migrate operation and the application will pick up from where the previous operation left off, without values being skipped or written multiple times.
