The GISMapApp supports three types of layers and they are: Imagery Layer, Feature Layer, and Group Layer.
Imagery Layer
-
Imagery and raster data are available on a web service.
-
Depending on the server capabilities and requirements, various methods are available (tiled imagery, tile caches, dynamic imagery, map image, etc.).
-
Pre-rendered images in grids that are organized by zoom levels for specific resolutions (e.g., satellite, terrestrial, topographic, etc.).
-
The imagery layers that are supported include ArcGIS, Bing, Custom, Esri, GeoJSON, Google, Group of Layers, Mapbox, OpenWeather, OpenStreetMap, Particle Animations, TileJSON, WebMap, WMS, and XYZ.

Features Layer
-
Spatially enabled data that contains features with geometries and attributes.
-
Vector data is available in different formats (GeoJSON, JSON, KML, GML, etc.).
-
Some providers incorporate details regarding the rendering of features, such as clustering, into the layer definitions.
-
The feature layers that are supported include Custom, Esri, and GeoJSON.

Group Layer
-
A specific type to group other layers.
-
A layer can be configured as an overlay or basemap.
-
Basemap layer: A background layer where only single layer is visible at the same time.
-
Overlay layer: Multiple layers can be viewed at the same time, and they are stacked one on top of the other.
-
-
There are common configurable options for all type of layers (Common options) and specific configurable options depending on the type of layer.
