When a value is retrieved from or sent to an external system such as a DCS, the interface uses the instrument tag as the tag in the external system. The InstrumentTag field can be any length, though only the first 32 characters of this attribute are used. PI Interface for DNP3 uses the extended descriptor (ExDesc).
