Each RTU must have its link reset before the interface can request data from the RTU. Moreover, if the connection to the RTU is lost, the link to the RTU must be reset upon reestablishment of a connection to the RTU. Additionally, an RTU connected via serial will require a reset if the RTU fails to respond to interface requests.
To help determine how often an RTU is being reset, the interface includes a reset counter point that will store the value of reset link requests sent to the interface. For example, when using a cellular architecture to communicate with a field RTU, this point can help identify an RTU that is having communications issues and even help determine the time of day communication issues with a particular device is more apparent.
The point is updated by default once a minute and the value contains the number of the reset request sent to the interface during that last one-minute period, and then the value is reset to zero. The update period for the point is configurable from a minimum of once a minute to a maximum of once an hour. Refer the PI Point configuration section of this manual for additional configuration details for this point.
