Note: The Power BI OMI App requires an AVEVA Flex license. It is not included in the product installation. For more information, refer to How to Download and Install the Power BI App section in AVEVA Widgets, Apps, and Control Help>AVEVA OMI Apps>AVEVA OMI App for Microsoft Power BI.
Microsoft Power BI is a suite of software services, apps, and connectors that aggregate unrelated sources of data to produce business analytic reports that appear in a web dashboard. Power BI bases a report on a single dataset. Power BI designers create graphic representations of selected data shown on the dashboard based on a set of integrated filters. Power BI graphic visuals are dynamic and update as the underlying data changes or different runtime filters are applied.
You can integrate the existing Power BI dashboard or can create a new dashboard.
Configure the Power BI App
Preparing the Power BI app to run in an AVEVA ViewApp includes several major workflows that must be completed by both Power BI designers and ViewApp builders. The primary focus of this User Guide is to describe the work done by the ViewApp builder to integrate the Power BI app in System Platform.
The following list shows the expected workflow sequence to prepare the Power BI app for use and the expected user role to complete each workflow.
-
Create and publish Power BI report (Power BI designer)
Have a Power BI report published for use with the Power BI app. If necessary, contact your organization's Power BI designer to publish a Power BI report before starting the workflows completed by a ViewApp builder.
Important: To embed a Power BI report in the AVEVA Power BI OMI app, the Power BI report must be published using the "Embed for your customers application" method.
If your organization is new to Microsoft Power BI, see Create and Publish a Power BI Report for instructions to create a report. These instructions are intended primarily for users to quickly start using the Power BI app together with Power BI reports for evaluation purposes. However, creating a Power BI report is done entirely using Microsoft products. The procedure to create a report may change as Microsoft updates their products, which is beyond the scope of AVEVA publications to provide continuous updates for other company's software products.
