Manage Connection Strings

Note: Connection String Management is for Tenants who have migrated to use SQL Authentication.

View the Connection String Management

  1. From the AVEVA BI Gateway Model Builder Home Page, select the icon.

    A list with options appears. The current account is displayed.

  2. Select Connection String Management.

    The Connection String Management dialog box appears.

    You can filter the existing connection strings by name using the Filter by connection name field, and choose to view All, Datastore, or Reporting connections using the Datastore Type dropdown.

    The following details of the existing connection strings are displayed:

    1. Connection Name

    2. Database Type

    3. User ID

    4. Date created

    5. Expiry date

      Note:
      - Each connection string expires after one year. The user receives automated email notifications one month before expiry, then 15 days before, followed by daily reminders starting 7 days prior and continuing until the connection string expires.
      - If the connection string is past its expiry date, the connection string is greyed out.

  3. Select the icon to view the following details of a connection string:

    1. Server name

    2. Database name

    3. User ID

    4. Date created

    5. Expiry date

    6. Connection string name

    You can also copy the details by selecting the icon.

    Note: The connection string does not have a password. You must add it manually before connecting to the database.

  4. Select Back to view all the existing connection strings.

  5. Select Close to return to the AVEVA BI Gateway Model Builder Home Page.

    Note: You can also select Close after viewing a specific connection string to return to the AVEVA BI Gateway Model Builder Home Page.

Add a new connection string

  1. From the Connection String Management dialog box, select either + Datastore Database or + Reporting Datastore.

    Note:
    - The maximum number of concurrent connection strings is ten (This may vary depending on the configuration). You must delete a connection string to add a new one if you exceed this limit.
    - When adding a new connection string, a password is provided. You must copy this password and store it in a secure location.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Enter the database name in the Database Connection Name field.

    • Select the icon to copy the Database Connection name provided and Paste it in the Database Connection Name field.

    Note:
    - Database Connection Name is a required field.
    - The maximum characters of the Database Connection Name must not exceed 100 characters.

  3. Select Create.

    A new Connection String is created.

    Note: Each connection string expires after one year. The user receives automated email notifications one month before expiry, then 15 days before, followed by daily reminders starting 7 days prior and continuing until the connection string expires.

  4. Select the icon to copy any of the details.

  5. Select Back to view the remaining existing connection strings.

  6. Select Close to return to the AVEVA BI Gateway Model Builder Home Page.

    Delete a connection string

    1. From the Connection String Management dialog box, to the side of the connection you wish to delete, select the Delete icon.

      The Delete Database User dialog box appears.

    2. Select Delete.

      The user is now deleted.
