Connect Tableau Desktop

You can connect Tableau Desktop leveraging the Azure Synapse Analytics Connector.

Connect Tableau Desktop

  1. Open Tableau Desktop.

    Note: For more information on the installation process, refer to https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/install.htm.

    The following window appears.

  2. Click Connect.

  3. Under Connect to a Server on the left pane, select Azure Synapse Analytics. Alternatively, you can type Azure Synapse Analytics in the Search field and click the link.

  4. Click Connect.

    The New Connection dialog box appears.

  5. In the Server box, enter the Datastore Server name. Ensure that this value matches the Server name displayed in the Manage Connection Strings dialog box while creating the connection. For more information, see Manage Connection Strings.

  6. In the Database box, enter the datastore name. Ensure that this value matches the Database name displayed in the Manage Connection Strings dialog box while creating the connection. For more information, see Manage Connection Strings.

  7. In the Authentication drop-down list, select SQL Server Authentication.

  8. In the Username and Password boxes, type the User Id and Password respectively to connect to the database. Ensure that this value matches the User Id and Password displayed in the Manage Connection Strings dialog box while creating the connection. For more information, see Manage Connection Strings.

  9. Click Sign In.

    The connection between Tableau Desktop and Azure Synapse Analytics is established successfully.
