After the administrator receives a valid temporary license file ipassi.lic from AVEVA, he or she needs to configure this file for it to work on the license server computer. These are the steps to follow.
-
The administrator opens the ipassi.lic file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
-
The administrator edits the SERVER line in this file so that the second entry on this line is the name or IP address of the FNP License Server computer. Example:
SERVER [FNPSERVERCOMPUTERNAME] ANY
-
The administrator adds an LMGRD port number to the end of the SERVER line, if the license administrator needs the license server to always use the same port number. Specifying a unique port for each FNP license server is critical when the machine hosts multiple FNP license servers. Without doing so may cause the license servers to have LMGRD port conflict. Otherwise, this step is optional. Example:
SERVER [FNPSERVERCOMPUTERNAME] ANY 27000
-
The administrator adds an IPASSI port number to the end of the VENDOR line, if necessary. This step is required if the license server is always to use the same port for IPASSI.EXE. Otherwise, this step is optional. Example:
VENDOR IPASSI PORT=4567
-
The administrator saves and closes the IPASSI.LIC file.
-
From the Start menu, the administrator selects the IPASSI FNP Folder icon to open the license server folder in Windows Explorer.
-
Check to see if there is any existing valid license files in this folder. If not, the administrator copies the ipassi.lic file to this folder. If there is, the administrator renames the temporary license file to avoid conflict with any of the existing valid license file(s), and then copy the temporary license file over. Note that the new file and the existing valid license file(s) need to have the extension name of LIC. That way, when the license server starts, it’ll try to pick up all the LIC files.
-
The administrator selects the lmtools.exe shortcut to launch the lmtools.exe utility.

-
On the Service/License File tab, the administrator chooses the IPASSI FNP xx.xx SERVICE. xx.xx refers to the version of the FNP license server.
-
If there are multiple valid license files, the administrator needs to go to the Config Services tab and modify the "Path to the license file" value to be the folder where the licenses file are, and save the configuration.

-
The administrator selects the Start/Stop/Reread tab, as shown below.

-
If the server is running, the administrator can stop and restart the server, or can click the ReRead License File button to start using the new license. If the server is not running, the administrator clicks the Start Server button to start the IPASSI FNP xx.xx License Server and activate the temporary license file.
