PI System Connector

PI point replication

  • Last UpdatedJan 30, 2023
  • 2 minute read

PI System Connector replicates most of the PI point attributes from the source Data Archive(s) to the destination Data Archive(s) for points with built-in PI point classes that include base, classic, Alarm, SQC Alarm, and Totalizer.

Any PI point configuration changes including tag rename made on the source Data Archives) will be automatically reflected on the destination Data Archive(s) while the connector is running every two minutes by default.

Any PI point configuration changes including tag rename made on the source Data Archive(s) while the connector is down, will be synchronized on the destination Data Archive(s) when the connector is restarted. However, not all the PI point attributes are replicated, and the following exceptions occur:

  • Point Security

  • Data Security

  • Data Access

  • Data Group

  • Data Owner

  • Point Access

  • Record Number

  • Point Class ID

  • Point ID

  • Point Class Revision

  • Point Owner

  • Node Number

  • Change Date

  • Changer

  • Clamp

  • Compressing

    • Default: disabled/off compressing=0

    • The compressing attribute will be replicated as configured on the source PI System if the PI point matches global snapshot query.

  • Counter L Map

  • Counter Program ID

  • Counter String Map

  • Creation Date

  • Creator

  • Display Group

  • Event Number

  • Event String

  • Filter Number

  • Filter String

  • Offset

  • Period

  • Schedule Type

  • Source Point ID

Note: PI point replication for PI points of custom point classes is not supported. In addition to the list of the attributes above, the point-class specific attributes for Alarm, SQC Alarm, and Totalizer PI points are not replicated. They will be assigned with the default value from the destination Data Archives).

Note: PI points on the source PI System that contain a Source Point ID attribute that no longer exists, and an empty Source Tag (sourcetag) attribute, will be replicated as a PI point with no Source Tag. This PI point configuration can occur if the PI point defined in the Source Tag attribute has been deleted. In this case, the PI point Source Tag attribute will be empty, but the Source Point ID attribute may contain the point ID of the deleted PI point.

PI System Connector does not support the replication of PI point deletions from the source to the destination system. Deleting a PI point from the source does not automatically delete that PI point from the destination server.
