InTouch HMI quick start deployment

Set up run time automation options

  • Last UpdatedDec 19, 2024
  • 2 minute read

You can choose the quick deployment run time behavior from several options.

  • Simulate all run-time automation using a single window script.

  • Simulate data access using the SIM communication driver.

  • Connect to live data access with I/O. We recommend using the Gateway communication driver for its variety of protocols.

The following topics in this section detail steps and provide references for setting up each of these options.

Whether you choose to simulate data access with the SIM communication driver or connect to live data using Gateway, the basic workflow will be the same. The component names used in the following workflow are suggested. Angle brackets indicate variables where you can provide your own access, tag, application, topic, or node name.

Set up data access - workflow

  1. Create an access name. An access name defines a communication link with an I/O data source. Each access name specifies an I/O address consisting of a node name, an application name, and a topic.

    1. <Name>: The illustration application uses the access name Tanker_vol.

    2. <Node name> if the data resides on a network I/O Server, define the remote server’s node name. No node name was configured for this illustration application.

    3. <Application name> of the internal default simulator. The illustration application name is Fertilizer.

    4. <Topic name> of the default simulator. The illustration application uses a topic name Tanker.

    5. The illustration application selects SuiteLink as the protocol.

  2. Configure tags in the Tagname Dictionary.

    1. Create an I/O Integer Tag. The illustration application uses Tanker_vol as the I/O tag.

    2. Point it to the access name. The illustration application uses Tanker_vol as the access name.

    3. Enter a specific ItemName from the default simulator that we know has changing data.

  3. Create a value display for the above I/O integer tag on an InTouch window.

  4. Go to runtime and see the live value changing on the I/O tag.
