Upload scan files

Open the Administration page from the CONNECT home page.

You can also open Point Cloud Manager Administration page.

To upload scan files and generate datasets, you must have the Upload and Generator roles assigned to your project.

To upload scan files to a project:

1. On the Administration page, select the project from the Projects menu.

2. Select Dataset Management and then select Scans.

   

3. Select Upload, and then drag the scan files to the upload area.

4. To browse for files, open File Explorer and select the files to upload.

   

5. Select Upload. The uploaded files appear with the following information:

   • Status: Shows the conversion status of the file. Blue indicates scan conversions that have not started, yellow indicates conversions in progress, green indicates completed conversions, and red indicates failed conversions.

   • Colour: Shows whether the scan file has color data. Green icons indicate color scans.

   • Registered: Shows the scan registration status. Green icons indicate pre-registered scans, and yellow icons indicate unknown registration information.

   • Scan Position: Shows the 3D position of the scan in meters.

   • File Name: Shows the scan file name.

   • Scan Type: Shows the scan file type. Scan types include Structured, Unstructured, Panoramic, and Collection.

     You can generate a dataset with standard structured or unstructured data containing BubbleViews or Panoramic images.

   • Date Scanned: Shows the date and time when the file was scanned.

   • Date Uploaded: Shows the date and time when the file was uploaded.

     Supported scan file formats are .zfc, .zfs, .jpg, and e57.

     For color scans, upload the matching color panoramic .jpg files. Use the file name format ScanName_colour.jpg.

     You can upload a Z+F source file directly. Point Cloud Manager converts the file automatically and prepares it for generation. This saves time in conversion so you can upload smaller, pre-processed source scans.

Generate datasets

After you upload scans, you can generate a dataset.

To generate a point cloud dataset:

6. From the Scans tab, select the files, and then select Generate Dataset.

   

   You can generate a dataset from any structured file or an unstructured file, but not from a combination of different file types.

7. In the Dataset Generation window, enter the required information for generation.

   

   The CONNECT platform can generate datasets with only color or both intensity and color. The default setting is to include only color. This means points are loaded into Point Cloud Manager with the available colors on display. If the data is captured using only intensity, by default this generates a dataset with just intensity values.

   1. Select Enable colour intensity to load points with both color and intensity values. You can then switch between colour and intensity within the Point Cloud Manager desktop application.

   2. Select Limit point cloud to volume, then specify the volume boundary values. The system generates and displays point cloud data within the defined volume.

   3. Select Limit scans/bubbleviews/panoramas to volume to exclude any BubbleViews outside the specified volume.

   4. In Distance Beyond Volume Extents, enter a distance (in meters) to include BubbleViews within that range beyond the main volume.

8. Enter the Dataset Name, and then select Next. The generation pipeline appears.

   

   You can close the window. The generation process continues in the background.
