Implementing the various stages and phases demands teamwork, organization, and communication among numerous essential stakeholders, which often spans company and departmental divisions. Within each stage, there is enhanced cooperation among teams from diverse disciplines, such as process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineering.

The specifics and combinations can vary based on the project's complexity, size, and contractual arrangements. Typically, the groups are made up of the following:

  • Owner/Operator or Licensor

  • Engineering Firms

  • Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC)

  • Contractors

  • Subcontractors

  • Vendors

  • Suppliers

AVEVA Unified Engineering focuses on the stage processes marked with :

  • Identify Stage

    • Owner/Operator or Licensor — The Owner/Operator or Licensor typically initiates the project by identifying a need based on market demands, gaps in their product line, or a replacement or upgrade of existing facilities. An alternative might be a licensor bringing a core technology to market.

    • Feasibility Study Consultants or Owner/Operator — This group are specialists who conduct feasibility studies, and then determine the viability of the project.

  • Evaluate Stage

    • Owner/Operator — The Owner/Operator typically reviews the feasibility outcomes and then makes decisions about proceeding.

    • Owner/Operator, Consulting Engineers, or Engineering Firms — This group assesses and then selects technical options and potential execution strategies.

  • Define Stage

    • EPC Contractors or Owner/Operator — Once a project has been given the go-ahead, these contractors usually carry out the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to finalize the scope and sanction the project.

    • Owner/Operator — The Owner/Operator are involved in sanctioning the project and confirming the scope based on FEED.

  • Execute Stage

    • EPC Contractors and Subcontractor — This group details the design and procurement of necessary materials and equipment, and oversees the construction of the facility. On large projects, the Owner/Operator may use multiple subcontractors based on the bids or areas of expertise.

    • Subcontractors — Subcontractors are specialist firms or teams that handle specific aspects of the construction, such as electrical or piping installations.

    • Vendors, Fabricators, and Suppliers — This group provides the necessary equipment, materials, and services that are required for the construction.

  • Operate Stage

    • Owner/Operator or Licensor — This group is primarily responsible for the plant facility or core technology. Owner/Operators oversee the plant's daily operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance. Owner/Operators handle routine maintenance, address unexpected repairs, and monitor the plant's performance, optimizing for peak efficiency.
