AVEVA™ Unified Engineering Default Configuration

Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)

This section focuses on the migration process from legacy AVEVA Electrical and AVEVA Instrumentation to AVEVA Unified Engineering. The migration approach will vary depending on the specific needs of each customer. Some may require only the migration of configuration elements, such as datasheets, lists of values, and property definitions, while others, particularly Owner Operators, may require migration of both configuration and data. Additionally, some customers may have custom features implemented on top of the standard software distribution.

The first step is to conduct a thorough assessment of your requirements. Based on this assessment, the migration should proceed in two stages:

  • Configuration and definitions migration

  • Data migration (if applicable)

It is essential to complete the configuration migration before proceeding with data migration.

A key enhancement introduced by AVEVA Unified Engineering is the shift from discipline-specific modules to a holistic, integrated engineering environment. This new approach requires a deep understanding of your existing workflows, which must be carefully translated and implemented within the new solution.

The offering includes a comprehensive and configurable Data Model. This model can be further extended to meet specific customer needs, something that was not possible with legacy products.

A high-level overview of the legacy E&I migration strategy is shown in the following image.

Having a deeper look into the migration process, AVEVA is developing a dedicated utility with a user-friendly interface which will be extensively documented once released for general availability. This section instead provides an overview on how the process, supported by the upcoming tool, will be expected to operate. It will be subdivided in the following steps:

  • Project connection

  • Model configuration

  • Data Model mapping and translation

  • Model merge
