Deployment

PI SQL Client can run on different architectures. However, PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) and PI OLEDB Enterprise Server Agent are 64-bit versions only. See also PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) installation.

Note: We recommend using 64-bit operating systems whenever possible. Performance will be better on a 64-bit operating system than on a 32-bit operating system.

Deployment of PI SQL Client & RTQP Engine

PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) provides secure network communication through Net.Tcp or HTTPS to the driver on the client side.

Deployment of PI OLEDB Enterprise & PI OLEDB Enterprise Server Agent

PI OLEDB Enterprise Server Agent provides secure network communication through Net.Tcp to the PI OLEDB Enterprise provider on the client side.

When using this deployment, consider the following:

• Install the resource-efficient PI SQL Client on the client. You must install PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) on PI AF server.

• In addition to PI OLEDB Enterprise, PI SQL Client is also suitable for WAN. We recommend this when the expected number of resulting rows is rather low.

This deployment takes advantage of cross-architecture support. For example, when you use a 64-bit query execution in PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) from a 32-bit OLEDB application.
