PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine)

Architecture

The predecessor product to PI SQL Client, PI OLEDB Enterprise, was designed to translate SQL queries into AF SDK calls, all happening inside the OLE DB provider. This meant CPU and memory intensive operations on the client side.

PI SQL Client OLEDB, however, has been constructed to leverage PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) on PI AF server for query execution. Because PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) is installed on the same server as PI AF server, the client only requires a thin client that has no local dependency on larger components such as a query engine and AF SDK.

This architecture change means that the PI SQL Client driver is very light weight in terms of resources needed. On the other hand, the PI AF server machine has higher CPU and memory requirements now.
