PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine)

Understand configuration for data access

PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) runs as a virtual account (NT Service\PiSqlDas.Rtqp) by default. It can be configured to run as a managed service account or user account. Depending on which account is used, the data sources of the data reference in an AF database need to be configured to allow the account to read data.

Accessing PI Point data references

To enable PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) to read PI point data reference values from a particular Data Archive, the security settings need to be modified to include the correct mappings or trusts. The PI Identity you use for mapping needs read and read data access.

To add mappings, open PI System Management Tools, expand Security on the pane, and select Mappings & Trusts for the Data Archive you want. From the Mappings tab, add a new mapping for the account that is used to run the PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) to a PI Identity with read access. If your PI AF server is on the same machine as your Data Archive and PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) is running as a virtual account (NT Service\PiSqlDas.Rtqp), add a mapping for the virtual account. If your PI AF server and your Data Archive are on separate machines, add a mapping for the PI AF server machine.

To add trusts, open PI System Management Tools, expand Security on the pane, and select Mappings & Trusts for the Data Archive you want. From the Trusts tab, add a new trust for the account that is used to run the PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) and assign a PI Identity with read access. If your PI AF server is on the same machine as your Data Archive and PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) is running as a virtual account (NT Service\PiSqlDas.Rtqp), add a trust for the virtual account. If your PI AF server and your Data Archive are on separate machines, add a trust for the PI AF server machine.

For more information on setting up mappings and trusts, see the PI System Management Tools User Guide.

Note: If the PI point data references were configured using the %SERVER% placeholder in the PI AF database, PI SQL Data Access Server (RTQP Engine) uses the default Data Archive server on the PI AF server.
