Assign a role or user to a location

  • Last UpdatedMay 04, 2023

The final step in the security process is to make role assignments by setting permissions in the project hierarchy. When you set permissions for a location in the hierarchy, all users that belong to that role have access to the location.

You can set permissions on these items:

  • Enterprise folders

  • Site folders

  • Work centers

  • Reporting points (different for each module)

Note: Although items in Studio display a Permissions option on the right-click menu, this option works only for Enterprise folders, Site folders, work centers, and reporting points. It does not work for sub-items of reporting points, including fields.

Use same permissions as parent dialog box

When configuring item permissions in Studio:

  • Clearing the Use the same permission as parent check box will apply permissions from the parent to the child. All parent roles and associated members will be added to the selected child item. There is no dynamic update permissions after this one time. Any later changes to the permissions of the parent item will not affect the child item.

  • Further modifications to the child item will be independent of the parent item. They will not affect the parent.

  • Further modifications to the parent item will not affect the child.

  • Reselecting Use the same permission as parent check box will cause the independently-added permissions to child to be removed, and the child to inherit from parent again.
