Configure OPC UA Server

Application Server supports the OPC UA (Unified Architecture) protocol for machine-to-machine communications. This OPC UA Server functionality allows third party clients to interact with Application Server and leverage industry standards, such as OPC UA. When OPC UA Server functionality is enabled on Application Server, a client can utilize the built-in OI Gateway or a third party client to connect to Application Server, and use OI Gateway or the client to securely browse the OPC UA namespace and interact read and write with Application Server.

When OPC UA Server functionality is enabled on Application Server, a client can utilize the built-in OI Gateway or a third-party client to connect to Application Server and use OI Gateway or the client to securely browse the OPC UA namespace and read and write with Application Server.

To enable OPC UA Server functionality on Application Server:

  1. Open the Galaxy with the System Platform IDE.

  2. Select Galaxy in the toolbar and select Configure.

  3. Expand System and select Services to configure and deploy services for the selected galaxy.

  4. Expand the root item with the name of the galaxy, expand the Aveva.OPCUAService 1.0 and select the default Instance.

  5. Right click on the service instance and select Check-out to edit the configuration and configure the following parameters.

    • Port Number. 48031

    • Require Encrypted communication between OPC UA clients and this server instance (Recommended): Enabled

    • Allow anonymous client connection: Disabled.

    • Allow authenticated Galaxy Users to write to attributes, depending on their security role: Enabled.

  6. Right click on the service instance and select Save and Check-in.

  7. In the Assignments section, select the node, or nodes, where you want to deploy the OPC UA Service and select Update.

  8. Right click on the service instance and select Deploy.
