PI Interface for OPC Alarms and Events

Failover configuration

  • Last UpdatedOct 20, 2026

PI Interface for OPC AE provides two methods for configuring failover, to ensure that data collection continues if either the interface or the OPCAE server fails:

  • UniInt failover

If one instance of PI Interface for OPC AE fails, another instance can take over data collection.

Note:UniInt failover is a feature common to UniInt-based interfaces. For more information about configuring UniInt failover, see PI Universal Interface (UniInt).

  • OPC AE server-level failover

If PI Interface for OPC AE stops receiving data from the currently-connected OPCAE server, it can switch to another OPCAE server and resume data collection.

If you are configuring both types of failover, configure failover in the following order:

  1. Configure and verify UniInt failover.

  2. Disable UniInt failover.

  3. Configure and verify OPCAE server-level failover

  4. Re-enable UniInt failover.
