PI Interface for OPC Alarms and Events

Vendor-specific attributes

Other than the common attributes for that event type, each event category has attributes associated directly with that category. For all event categories, except for OPC SERVER ERROR, the attributes 1 through 15 are common:

DEVICE INFORMATION

Event Category 5, OPC SERVER ERROR, supports only attribute 1, ORDINANCE.

The attributes can be filtered within the DeltaV OPC AE server by using the command arguments /EVCx= to specify the attributes (See section Command-line parameters). It is required that this filtering be accomplished for all event categories where events are expected and must include attribute 4 (Area), except for event category 5 (ServerError).

Note: Read the following section carefully in order to correctly process alarm sources under an Area and/or Unit.

Control modules may be organized under Areas, Process Cells, or Units in DeltaV. In order for the PI OPCAE interface to retrieve the correct Area for the event, the user must specify the position of the attribute corresponding to the Area (attribute 4) for the area index (/ai) command line parameter. Likewise, in order for the PI OPCAE interface to retrieve the correct Unit for the event, the user must specify the location of the attribute corresponding to the Unit (attribute 13) for the unit index (/ui) command line parameter.

As the tables above show, not all event categories have the same number of attributes. The position needed for the area index (/ai) and unit index (/ui) command line parameters is the position of the area attribute or unit attribute in the list of all attributes for a specified event category. Configure the /evc# command line parameters so that the area and unit attributes are in the same position in the list for all specified event categories.

The following example shows how to correctly configure the event categories to have the Area and Unit attributes in a constant position for all categories specified.

/evc1=1,1,2,3,4,13,5,6,7,8,9,10,12

/evc2=2,1,2,3,4,13,5,6,7,8,9,10,12

/evc3=3,1,2,3,4,13,5,6,7,8,9,12

In the above example, the area index (/ai) command line parameter would be set to 4 and the unit index (/ui) command line parameter would be set to 5 to operate correctly with the /evc# command line parameters listed above.
