PI Interface for OPC Alarms and Events

PI Point configuration tool

The PI OPCAE Tag Configuration Tool is a command-line utility that aids in the creation of PI points from the OPC AE Server. When the tool is executed, it browses the OPC AE Server and gets the alarm attributes needed to configure a PI tag. However, there may be a need to edit the generated file in order to change parameters such as location2 and ExDesc, which are not specified explicitly by the configuration tool.

The tool also prints out information about the OPC AE Server’s supported areas, event categories, and vendor specific attributes. This information is used to specify tag and interface event category support, vendor specific attribute support on an event category basis, and areas.

The tool can also be run in list mode using the -lst command line argument. In list mode the tool will only list the names of the OPC AE servers registered on the machine. These names can be used for the –server command argument for the server name to create PI tags. If the OPC AE server exists on a separate node, use the –node argument to specify the node name. Type the following at the command prompt for list mode:

<PIHOME>\Interfaces\PIOPCAE\AEConfig.exe –lst –node=hge1005ae

The example below shows how to execute the tool to get the information that is required to build tags. The table immediately below contains a listing of the optional and required arguments. Note that the –id and –ps must match exactly those parameters that are passed in the interface startup file.

PIHOME\Interfaces\PIOPCAE\AEConfig.exe –node=hge1005ae ^ -server=DELTAV.OPCEVENTSERVER.1 –ps=opcae -id=1
