Appendix B - DeltaV OPC Alarms and Events server

This section will provide information specific to the DeltaV OPC AE server. This information is provided to aid in the understanding of the relation between the DeltaV OPC AE server and the PI OPCAE interface. Each version of DeltaV may have different event categories and attributes defined. Additional information can be found in the DeltaV online help system.

The DeltaV OPC AE server does not create alarms and events; it only exposes alarms and events previously defined within the system. The exposing of the alarms and events can be performed by assigning the area to the alarm and events subsystem within the Exploring DeltaV application.

Area_A exposes all the system events and it is necessary to get these events from this area. To filter by area, the instrumenttag is set to “Area_A. The AEConfig tool will generate the necessary data to filter on Area_A.

The PI OPCAE PI Point Configuration Tool will aid in configuring the PI points from DeltaV OPC AE sources. After the configuration tool completes, it will have generated an SMT file with the source, event type, interface id, pointsource and pointtype specified. However, it does not configure the location2 attribute, but generates the information needed to complete the configuration.
