These instructions apply only if PI Buffer Subsystem version 4.3 or later is installed on this computer.
To determine the version that you have installed, select ToolsBuffering... from the PI ICU toolbar. If you have PI Buffer Subsystem version 4.3 or later installed, the Buffering Manager window displays. In that case, you would use the following procedure to start buffering.
If version 3.4.380.79 or earlier is installed, an alert displays indicating that PI Buffer Subsystem is not configured.
-
Select Tools > Buffering....
-
When the dialog box displays asking if you want to configure PI Buffer Subsystem, select Yes.
Note: If you currently use API Buffer Server (bufserv), you may need to confirm more than one prompt.
The Buffering Manager - New Install Wizard window opens. This indicates one of two things:
-
The computer is configured to buffer data using API Buffer Server (bufserv). In this case, and before continuing, review the "Install or upgrade to PI Buffer Subsystem 4.3 or later" topic found in the Help system. From the Buffering Manager - New Install Wizard window, select Help to navigate to the topic, which also contains information on upgrades from API Buffer Server.
-
The computer is not configured to use any form of buffering.
-
-
To configure buffering, follow the instructions in the Buffering Manager - New Install Wizard window.
-
After you finish, return to the PI Interface Configuration Utility window. Select each interface, and on the General page under PI Host Information, look at the Buffering Status setting:
-
If Buffering Status is On, the buffering configuration for the server to which this interface sends data is complete. (This is the server specified in the API Hostname field for this interface.)
-
If Buffering Status is Off, you need to configure the server specified in the API Hostname field to receive buffered data from this interface. To add the server to the buffering configuration, select the Enable button and follow the instructions on the Buffering Manager screen.
Note: If existing data flows have unbuffered interfaces, stop all interfaces services configured for buffering and restart the PI Buffer Subsystem to send data through the Buffer.
