A query is executed against a selected data source.

Note: For information about how to execute a view query or a table-valued function query against a PI SQL Client data source, see Execute a predefined query.

  1. In order to execute a query, bind it to a data source.

The data source that is open when you create a query is automatically associated with the query.

You can change the data source by right-clicking in the query editor and selecting Connection > data_source, where data_source is one of the following options:

    • Connect To AF Server

    • Connect To PI Server

    • Connect To PI SQL Client OLE DB data source

    • Connect To PI SQL Client ODBC data source

    • Data source with a current open connection

After selecting a data source, the query will be bound to the selected connection.

  2. (Optional) To select a query in query editor, do one of the following:

    • Use the mouse to highlight the query.

    • Click in the query and press Ctrl+M.

  3. To execute a query, do one of the following:

    • In the query editor, place the cursor on the command and press Ctrl+R.

    • In the query editor, right-click a query and click Execute.

    • In the Object Explorer pane, right-click a query and click Execute Predefined Query.

The query results and messages are shown at the bottom of the query tab. You can review the results of the query in the Results tab.
