A data source name (DSN) is a data structure that contains the information about a specific database that an ODBC driver needs in order to connect to it. PI SQL Commander Lite can connect to PI SQL Client ODBC, PI ODBC Driver, and PI Views using DSNs. You create and edit ODBC data sources using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator. PI SQL Commander Lite displays only PI-specific DSNs.
Configuration options vary based on the connection type. For information about how to configure the data source, see the documentation for the type of connection you want to add.
-
For PI SQL Client ODBC data sources, see the Data source name (DSN) configuration topic in the PI SQL Client ODBC Administrator Guide.
-
For PI ODBC Driver data sources, see the PI ODBC Driver documentation available at the AVEVA Customer Portal Products page.
-
For PI Views, see the documentation for the PI Integrator used to create the PI View.
To connect to an ODBC data source:
-
From Windows, search for ODBC Data Sources and click it.
The ODBC Data Source Administrator window opens.
-
Add a data source for a connection to PI SQL Client ODBC, PI ODBC Driver, or PI Views.
-
After you have added the DSN, in Object Explorer pane of PI SQL Commander Lite, right-click ODBC Data Sources and select Refresh.
The new DSN appears under the connection type.
-
Right-click on the DSN name and select Connect.
A green arrow next to the server icon indicates that the connection is successful.
