Object Explorer

When you start PI SQL Commander Lite, the Object Explorer pane is displayed. Use the object explorer to navigate data source schemas.

In Object Explorer, you can do the following:

• Connect to OLEDB and ODBC data sources.

• Navigate PI Asset Framework(PI AF) schemas (if the ODBC connection is to a PI AF server), including:

  • Catalogs

    Note: By default, the data model for PI SQL Client consists of one catalog - Master. This catalog contains a set of tables and table-valued functions.

  • For information about how to create other catalogs, see Use the template-specific data model wizard.

  • Tables and table structures

  • Data types

  • Primary key columns

• Create, open, edit, save, and run queries

When you open a new query window, the query window is permanently bound to the selected data source if that data source is in a connected state. Any queries you create in the query window are run against the data source that was selected when the query window was opened.

If multiple data sources are open at the same time, you can query a specific data source by selecting it and then clicking New Query.
