Remote service validation

Remote service validation is an additional security check. It verifies the current location, acting as a client, is communicating with the expected service (the remote location daemon). Remote service validation is applicable only when the selected protocol uses Windows or certificate-based authentication. It is optional except under the following conditions:

  • The selected protocol uses certificate or Windows authentication.

  • Protocols basicHttp_Message_Certificate or wsHttp_Message_Certificate are used.

Before performing the validation, install the remote location’s public key certificate in the current location.

  • The default Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) identity validation fails with an identity mismatch error.

For certificate authentication, this error occurs when the remote service certificate subject name does not match the host name in the remote global daemon address.

To perform a validation, use the Remote service validation section of the Binding Settings window. Set the Type to DNS or Certificate (see requirements for each in the following table). The Value box then becomes active, allowing you to enter the subject name or thumbprint.

Import the public copy of the remote certificate into the current location daemon machine’s personal store. Provide the certificate subject name or thumbprint as the identity value.
