AVEVA™ Administration

Abnormal Exits

If the user exits abnormally from the application, for example because of a power failure or system crash, and the user lists the database files in the operating system, the user may see files with a .deleted extension. This is because when the user does any task that involves deleting a database file, the AVEVA base product copies the file to be deleted to a new file with the .deleted extension.

When the user perform a SAVEWORK, or exit normally which automatically does a SAVEWORK, the .deleted files are removed. However, if there is a problem which results in database files being deleted, and an exit occurs before the System database can be updated with the changes, the AVEVA base product will rename the .deleted files and remove the extension, so that the files will still be available.
