The term Flexible Explorer is also used in application. Flexible Explorer is the tree component used to visualize a PBS. Therefore where there is discussion about how a PBS will appear, the terms Flexible Explorer and PBS are synonymous.

The Project Breakdown Structure (PBS) can be used to present database elements in a hierarchy view in a customized way which matches their working practices. For example, the elements can be arranged by class, system, site, zone or some other user-defined structure. It can show all or only a subset of database elements, some part of the database ownership hierarchy, or any other type of relationship which exists between the database elements. The standard database hierarchy view and the PBS are two examples of this.

The PBS definitions are stored in the Lexicon module or as XML files on the file system. The definition can make use of C# methods and Programmable Macro Language (PML) functions to populate the nodes of the hierarchy view. A project can use one or many different definitions.

Note:
Project Explorer presents the database elements in AVEVA Engineering refer to Project Breakdown Structure for further information.
