Modify a view

  • Last UpdatedMay 21, 2024
  • 2 minute read

When you modify a view, there are implications for how existing data is handled:

  • When a previously published asset or event view is modified and republished, the existing data is deleted. Previously published data is not preserved. The modified asset or event view uses the start time of the first publishing as its start time. When a view that publishes to a file-based publish target is republished, the existing published data files are deleted. For table-based publish targets, the action of republishing drops the existing target table. In either case, previously published data is not preserved. The modified asset or event view uses the start time of the first publishing as its start time.

  • Any data that is read from a streaming target into another system is not modified. You will have to reconcile any differences in the data that is sent for the original view and the modified view. In most instances, you will probably delete the existing stored data before publishing the modified view.

Alternatively, you can make a copy of a view and edit the copy; this view is treated as a new view.

  1. From the My Views page, select the view you want to modify and click Modify View.

  2. In the Modify View dialog box, do one of the following:

    • To edit the view – Click Edit this view.

    • To edit a copy of the view – Select Edit a copy of this view, enter a unique name for the view, and click Edit View.

The selected view displays in the Select Data page. You can continue with making changes to the data shape, modifying the view, and publishing the data.

For more information on how to edit a view, refer to Create an asset view, Create an event view, and Create a streaming view.

Note: If the application impersonation security setting is on, the modified or copied view will use the AF identities mapped to the user who copied or modified the view for data access instead of the AF identities associated with the user who last published the view. See the Data security section for more information.
