Advantages of PI Integrator for Business Analytics

The advantages of using PI Integrator for Business Analytics are:

• Large data sets can be easily selected and imported. No coding is required to prepare the data and no knowledge of the source data is required.

• The size of the data set can be scaled up without requiring customization of the data importing procedures.

• PI System data can be merged with other data sets for aggregate-level analysis, and consumed by a variety of business intelligence tools, data warehouses, and streaming platforms.

• Published data is synchronized with the PI System and automatically updated to reflect changes for selected publish targets.

• Data is refreshed on a schedule or in response to changes to key values.

• The web-based user interface is easy to use, requiring no installation by end users.

Caveats to using PI Integrator for Business Analytics

Note the following about PI Integrator for Business Analytics:

• PI Integrator for Business Analytics only supports data with timestamps in the past. Future data is currently not supported.

• PI Integrator for Business Analytics publishes PI System data to a wide variety of targets. However, it does not write changes from the targets back to PI Data Archive or to the AF Server.

• Streaming views are designed to help you operationalize a machine learning model or an analytic by feeding data in near real time. Streaming views are not intended to act as a real-time synchronization of entire PI Systems, and can encounter performance issues due to the increased overhead on the PI Integrator.

  • Key-triggered streaming views may start to experience performance issues with 100-200 matches in a single view.

  • Scheduled streaming views can handle several thousand matches per view, dependent on other performance factors. There is a hard limit of 25,000 total matches of the search shape per view.

• PI Integrator Sync service requires that only one PI Data Archive Collective Member have a priority level of 1 at any time. Multiple members with the priority level of 1 are not supported for PI Integrator Sync.
