The AVEVA Connectivity Service provides redundant read/write access to the Plant SCADA runtime data model. It enables access for OPC UA and the System Platform Application Server.

The Connectivity Service Manager is a component of Plant SCADA that allows you to specify which clusters will be exposed to upstream applications. It is added to installations of Plant SCADA that include an OPC UA Server.

You can access the Connectivity Service Manager in the following ways:

  • Select Connectivity Service Manager from the AVEVA Plant SCADA branch of the Windows Start menu.

  • Click on the following icon in the Windows system tray.

Note: Only users who are assigned to Plant SCADA's Server Users security role can access the Connectivity Services Manager. For more information, see Windows User Groups and Security Roles in the topic Installation Information.

The Connectivity Service Manager supports the following functionality.

  • Cluster Selection

The interface of the Connectivity Service Manager primarily allows you to select which clusters the Connectivity Service will connect to. This means OPC UA and the System Platform Application Server will only have access to data from the clusters you select.

The listed clusters represent those that are configured in the current runtime project. Only clusters that contain an I/O server are included in the list.

If you make any changes to the selected clusters, you need to click the Restart button. This will force a restart of the Connectivity Service. If you modify the selected clusters and attempt to close the Connectivity Service Manager, you will be prompted to Apply or Discard the changes.

Note: If the current Plant SCADA runtime project changes, or a new version of the project is deployed, a system notification will remind you to review the current cluster configuration in the Connectivity Service Manager. If new clusters are detected, they are not automatically selected. Clusters that have been deleted are automatically removed.

  • Service status

The current status of the Connectivity Service is displayed in the lower left corner of the Connectivity Service Manager. It indicates if the service is Running, Stopped or Starting (following a restart). By default, the Connectivity Service is set to automatically run whenever the host computer starts.

The service status will also appear on a tooltip when you hover the mouse over the system tray icon.

  • View logs

The View log button launches Log Viewer. Activity for the Connectivity Service can be traced in the Log Viewer via entries for the Citect.Connectivity.Server components.

To hide the Connectivity Service Manager, select the Close button. A notification will appear to remind you that the application will continue to run in the background.

To shut down the Connectivity Service Manager, right-click on the system tray icon and select Exit. Note that the exit command does not stop the Connectivity Service.
