Plant SCADA Documentation

  • Last UpdatedSep 22, 2026

The documentation for Plant SCADA is available on the AVEVA Documentation portal (docs.aveva.com), a cloud-based resource that hosts the current documentation for actively-maintained AVEVA products.

The AVEVA Documentation portal supports continuous maintenance of its content, which helps to ensure the documentation is accurate and up-to-date. In the case of Plant SCADA, regular revisions will coincide with the release of monthly product updates.

By default, Plant SCADA's context-sensitive help links will open directly in the AVEVA documentation portal.

To access the Plant SCADA documentation directly from docs.aveva.com, use the alphabetical filter on the home page to locate Plant SCADA in the list of available products. This link takes you to a page that provides access to current and previous versions of Plant SCADA's product documentation.

For more information on how to navigate and search the AVEVA Documentation portal, click on the About tab.

Local documentation

If your system is running on a remote or secured site that does not have direct internet access, you can also use a version of the documentation that is installed locally with Plant SCADA.

The local version of the documentation is browser-based and supports text-based search functionality.

Note: The locally installed version of the Plant SCADA documentation does not include updates made to the AVEVA Documentation portal.

Configurator allows you specify if a computer uses the local documentation by default for all context-sensitive links. Go to the Computer Setup page, select the Use local documentation check box and then Configure.

This setting directs all Plant SCADA components to the local documentation. It will also launch a Windows service called AVEVA Plant SCADA Help Service.

If the computer is configured as, or connected to, a System Management Server (SMS), the service will run an encrypted connection on port 443. If it is not connected to an SMS, it will use an unencrypted connection on port 80.

Note: If you are using IT-managed certificates to connect a computer to a System Management Server (SMS), the localhost identifier must be added to the Subject Alternative Names list in the certificate (see Personal Certificates Requirements). If this is not possible because of IT policies, then use docs.aveva.com instead as a secure documentation source. Local documentation cannot be used in insecure mode when the computer is configured as, or connected to, the SMS.
