How can I check if AVEVA Historian is receiving data?
View the overall data rate (per second) of data being forwarded in the Status pane of the AVEVA Historian. The displayed value corresponds to the number of samples acquired by Historian. The rate indicated is the number of samples received from all services, not only from the AVEVA Historian Plant SCADA Connector.

How can I confirm successful connection to AVEVA Plant SCADA?
In the AVEVA Historian Plant SCADA Connector user interface AVEVA Plant SCADA Connection panel, confirm the online message is displayed.
How can I confirm my data has been copied to AVEVA Insight?
-
In AVEVA Insight, search for the name of any tag you have copied.

-
Select that tag from the search results to see a single-chart view.
-
On the right side, select Properties, select the Settings tab, select Visualization, and then select Line Chart.

If the data is flowing to Insight, you will see a line depicting data values. If the data is not flowing, the chart will be empty. Here is an example of a line chart showing data values:

I can't see data flow to AVEVA Historian. How do I fix this?
If you are not seeing data flow, check the following:
-
The username and password are correct for AVEVA Plant SCADA and AVEVA Historian.
-
The user account exists in your AVEVA Plant SCADA project.
-
The AVEVA Plant SCADA computer you specified exists, is currently running, and has the following:
-
The server password correctly configured.
-
The [CtAPI]Remote parameter is set to 1 (enabled).
-
A firewall is blocking the connection.
-
AVEVA Historian Plant SCADA Connector is started; but no data seems to be flowing to AVEVA Historian. What should I do?
Check that the Historian Services have started correctly. If Historian has not started correctly, the services shown in the OCMC may include a number of "stopped" services.

In the tracelog.dat file, the following can be seen for each tag that has not been written into AVEVA Historian:
Add tag retry for [tagname] due to no acknowledgment from the Historian server.
If this happens, restart Historian.
How can I see which services are connected to AVEVA Historian?
In AVEVA Historian, select the Clients pane. This shows all services connected to Historian, including the AVEVA Historian Plant SCADA Connector.

Where can I find the Connector in the Start menu and in Windows Explorer?
The Start menu Application folder for the Connector is Wonderware. The default installation folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Wonderware\Citect SCADA Connector.
How can I see how frequently the service has started or stopped?
Check the event log. It registers when a service has been started or stopped. The following messages will be listed:
-
AVEVA Historian Plant SCADA Connector is starting
-
Stopping HCAL Connection
Tip: You can also check the log file to determine if the connection is lost or no data is being pushed into AVEVA Historian.
Why can't I establish a successful connection to AVEVA Historian?
Check to see if your AVEVA Historian user credentials are being authenticated. If not, it could be because the user credentials are not part of the following Windows groups: aaAdministrators group and aaReplicationUsers group and need to be added.
To add the user credentials to the Windows groups:
-
In Computer Management, expand the Groups folder.
-
Double-click the aaAdministrators group.
-
In the aaAdministrators group Properties window, add the AVEVA Historian user that is also entered in the Connector Connection tab.
Note: If the Historian user has not been added to these above groups, the Historian authentication will be unsuccessful. See the AVEVA Historian documentation for more information about HCAL Security.
Why can't I see data samples updated with cicode in AVEVA Historian?
The connector forwards historical trend data in time-series order. If data is updated for the trend earlier than the last stored sample (for example using TrnSetTable cicode function), the updated data will not be re-sent to AVEVA Historian.
The sample can be updated via cicode as long as they are written to the trend system in time-series order (oldest to newest).
Tag configuration settings modified in AVEVA Historian revert to their original values. How can I stop this?
Before making any changes in tag configuration settings, do the following:
-
Stop the AVEVA Historian Plant SCADA Connector service.
-
Make the configuration changes.
-
Restart the service.
When I restart the service, it generates an exception message. Why?
This happens when you change the IP address of your AVEVA Plant SCADA system.
To resolve, follow these steps:
-
Before restarting the service, delete the file SE.HistorianConnector.Service.sqlite, located here:
C:\ProgramData\Wonderware\Citect SCADA Connector\Data
-
Restart the service.
How can I avoid error messages in the OCMC log viewer when the AVEVA Plant SCADA runtime is down?
Whenever the AVEVA Plant SCADA runtime is shut down, Connector logs the exception messages in the OCMC viewer because it can't read trend tags data and alarm events from AVEVA Plant SCADA.
To avoid this error message, do the following:
-
Stop the connector service.
-
Restart the service when AVEVA Plant SCADA runtime is online.
